A natural fur lasts a long time when it receives a few, consistent attentions. Nothing complicated is required — only knowing what the material dislikes.
In season
Hang your fur on a wide, shaped hanger that supports the shoulders. Avoid carrying a shoulder bag on the same side for long periods: friction wears the pile. Perfume belongs on the skin, not on the fur. If the coat gets wet, shake it gently and let it dry at room temperature, away from radiators and never with a hair dryer.

Off season
In spring a fur needs a cool, dark, ventilated place. Use a breathable fabric garment bag — never plastic — and give it room in the wardrobe so it is not crushed between other clothes.
Humidity and temperature
Dry heat can dry out the leather; too much humidity encourages mould and odours. This is why many furriers offer summer storage in temperature- and humidity-controlled rooms.
Professional cleaning
Cleaning a fur should be left to a specialist furrier, not a regular dry cleaner. The same goes for small repairs: a seam that gives way is easy to fix if it is seen to promptly.
